Kayla Tenison

Kayla Tenison joined Design and Engineering, Inc. in 2026 as an Architectural Project Designer. She holds both a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, bringing a multidisciplinary perspective to every project and a passion for designing spaces that are both functional and meaningful.

Kayla’s interest in architecture began in high school when she enrolled in an architectural drafting class and quickly discovered her passion for blending creativity with technical problem-solving. Motivated to continue developing her skills, she pursued opportunities beyond the classroom through architectural internships, freelance graphic design work, entrepreneurial ventures, and a study abroad program in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she explored sustainable design principles.

Throughout her academic and professional journey, Kayla has gained experience across a variety of project types, including residential, restaurant, and conceptual design. She also served as Secretary of the University of Tennessee’s Student Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects and earned multiple state and national recognitions through SkillsUSA and Future Business Leaders of America for architectural drafting, design, and digital media.

What Kayla enjoys most about her profession is building relationships with clients and transforming their ideas into thoughtful, well-designed spaces that positively impact the way people live, work, and connect. She believes great design begins with listening and is most rewarding when it reflects each client’s unique vision.

Outside of the office, Kayla enjoys baking, caring for indoor plants and aquariums, creating handmade crafts, and running her Etsy shop, where she combines creativity with entrepreneurship while continuing to develop her design and business skills.
