The Ugly Bagel concept brings together two unexpected ideas—Bagels + Fun—to create a space that feels both lively and serene. From the moment you see the storefront, it feels fresh, forward-thinking, and a little unconventional. Our design challenge was to balance exuberance and tranquility, crafting a space rooted in duality that feels joyful and inviting.
Designed for the human experience, we wanted to create a space where anyone—whether grumpy, cheerful, or anything in between—can feel welcome. The goal was to enhance the customer journey through thoughtful design that spreads joy in a relaxed, approachable setting. During the programming and schematic phases, our interiors team studied user behavior to guide space planning. Every circulation path and activity zone was designed with the customer in mind, blending front-of-house and back-of-house functions while supporting the overall flow. Every detail, from layout to finishes, tied back to the core concept of duality.
We collaborated closely with outside vendors on branding and graphic design. As we moved into design development, the FF&E selections were carefully integrated with Ugly Bagel’s visual identity. This is where the playful and peaceful themes truly came together—through cohesive finishes, refined millwork details, and an immersive 3D model that brought the space to life. We’re proud to have helped shape this spot in the heart of Nashville that is quickly spreading joy—one bagel at a time.
